10 things we did in bali

01 | KUYA SPOTTING

What better way to spend a vacay with your girl friends than this? From the rugged, lean surfer dude in the flight to rare, pretty boys in Ubud and the beach (all of them with a pretty girl beside them too by the way) to that same cute guy on the way back AND coding them "kuya" with the hope that they couldn't see us giggling like high school girls and make the code name legit. Needless to say, we were never bored.

02 | SEARCH FOR THE ELUSIVE WIFI

We stayed at Ubud and our hotel, Suly Resort and Spa, only has wifi in the public areas ie. lobby, restaurant, pool. You wouldn't believe how we react whenever our phones give the surprising "DING!" telling us we have a message and are connected.

PS. You shouldn't be like us.

03 | PICTURE TAKING SESH BEFORE MEALS

No. We didn't take pictures of ourselves with our sumptuous meal. We ready our phone cameras and tell our sumptuous meal to smile! We even came to the point of standing up on our chairs just to get the perfect (but still blurry) shot!

04 | GETTING WET, DRYING UP, AND GETTING WET... N' WILD!

We went to Candi Dasa for snorkeling and afterwards hung out at Virgin Beach for lunch and some down time. We were all dried up until we made our way back to the main island. The waves were really big and they were coming from all sides. Our guide said there was no current but NOOO we didn't feel it was true!

05 | SHOPPING UNTIL WE PANICKED WHEN WE SAW OUR BAGS BLOATED

It was our first time to be millionaires... So when our ever patient driver Wayan told us about the sale in the factory outlets, we had the crazy eyes! Branded swimsuits, bikinis, etc. that are really pricey in Manila are slashed off until 50% off. I brought a big backpack and just a pair of bikinis.

On our free day, we went to Kuta Beach and saw a street rowed with the cheapest clothes. Cotton, patterned, you know, the type you'll get for a thousand php in Forever 21.

Add in the pasalubongs we shopped for family. (I bought a demon mask for my brother and not one, but TWO ukeleles).

Packing time came. And voila! BLOATED BAGS!

We didn't exceed the 15kg mark though.

06 | REGRET WE DIDN'T SURF

Our trip was balanced -- 2 full tour days, 1 snorkeling / island hopping / beach day, and 1 free day for spontaneity. But then when we were at the airport while waiting to board, we saw the waves far from the outside and told ourselves we shouldn't take our plane back. But we did.

So, the next time we go to Bali, it would be surfing vacay.

07 | TAKING JUST A PEEK OF KUTA BEACH

Literally. We just took a peek of Kuta Beach. If you're from The Philippines, you'll understand. I'm really proud of my hometown beaches and for me, nothing just compares (especially the bum types).

08 | ASK FOR SEPARATE SPICE SERVING

We have come to believe that Filipino food is the only one with salty as main taste among the SEAsian countries. In Malaysia, Cambodia, Thailand and in Indonesia, it's just really spicy! Even if you ask for "not spicy", there would still be something spicy in the meal whether be it a garnish, or relish, or side dish. But then spicy compliments their food so we asked for them separately.

And by the way, food in Bali is really delicious. Seafood are always fresh, the babi guling (Balinese version of lechon) is interesting, but the dirty duck made it for me!

09 | BRINGING THE EHD AND WATCHING GAME OF THRONES (++ MOVIES)

Being updated with the TV series is essential and for this particular one especially nearing its final episode, delay in watching would be a sin (and of course, because spoilers will reach you in no time). We woke up early on our free day, sacrificed our sleep-in time and had a badass rastafarian queen grace our breakfast time.

10 | GETTING FREAKED OUT BY LIVE FROGS YET EATING THEM FOR DINNER

I hate frogs. Aside from having to kill one for biology class, I accidentally scooped a dead, small one while I was discussing about Maroon 5 concert tickets on the phone with a friend while I was just covered with just bath towel one rainy evening. I thought it was chocolate cupcake wrapper.

Anyway, we freaked out in Ubud every evening but then they ate legs for dinner. Of course I didn't!
